Gift Giving Trends

Posted by – August 11, 2012

Gift giving trends have moved from expensive to thoughtful and interesting. The perfect gift might be a combination of both but it’s thoughtfulness that’s key. Details on the the latest trends in gifting are below. Many of the best are not even very expensive– tho we do include some that could qualify as luxury and are sure to give you some good ideas.

Gadgets and their accessories

Ipads and Kindles can be great gifts. Additionally, there are certain things that a person having technological gadgets will always need. These are the accessories. This can be in the form of a case, headphones, Bluetooth headset and so much more. The best part about these gifts is that the variety is simply endless. They are available in a wide range of prices to suit all.

Clothing twist

For a person who is close, apparel can also work. But here the size and style can make things hard. In order to avoid this, it is best to opt for a free size, and to buy something that can easily be worn. You might think about something fun like a nightgown or even pajamas. Primary consideration in this category is the comfort factor.

Many people find it difficult to decide upon the best gift for a person. This is when the best gift cards can be a great help. People can even get them at less than face value. And the best part is that in case the recipient is not very happy with these gift cards, it is always easy to go and exchange them for cash.

These are gifts that will never go out of fashion. Just keep the receiver’s age and taste in mind while selecting.

A bottle of wine- or a case- can be a fantastic gift. A way to take this one up a notch is to arrange for your recipient to “earn” the wine by having them participate in a winery’s bottling/labeling. Unlike harvest, they’re usually scheduled & allow for different degrees of participation .

Granting unique, behind-the-scenes access is usually a winner. They also provide for bonding via shared experiences.

Sponsored classes (Cooking, mixology, cheese-tastings) can be effective as well. Social in conjunction with educational activities have more impact than anything sourced via retail.

Another unique idea: take the recipient to a letterpress shop & have them co-design thick, 100% cotton calling cards with the printer/craftsman. They’ll love seeing the process & appreciate the take-away.

Have a chef take them to the farmers’ market, cheese monger, and/or butcher & show them how it’s done, what to look for, etc. Great way to top this one off would be to finish with a meal prepared from the purchases.

Diamonds always work. Depending who you’re buying for this is always an option. There’s a reason that diamonds have become the standard for engagement rings- women love them. Not that we’re recommending emerald cut engagement rings as a standard gift– but diamond stud earrings or a diamond drop necklace can work wonders for the right woman.

Creativity and thoughtfulness are key for choosing gifts. Gift giving trends may change, but these two ingredients- especially when combined with your heart- will always make for a perfect gift.
